DILUTE – (TERMS ALSO USED: AUSTRALIAN CINNAMON, PALLID, ISABEL) – SEX LINKED –NOTE: ABE USES THE TERMINOLOGY “DILUTE” BECAUSE THIS MUTATION IS NOT A CINNAMON NOR IS IT A PALLID MEANING NO COLOR, IT IS A DILUTED GREEN OR BLUE IN COLOR. WE ARE NOT REFERRING TO THE JAPANESE DILUTE WHICH DOES NOT EXIST IN OUR COUNTRY.

JAPANESE DILUTE – (TERMS ALSO USED: SUFFUSED, JAPANESE CHERRY) – RECESSIVE

DOMINANT PIED – DOMINANT

DUN FALLOW – RECESSIVE

ASHEN FALLOW – RECESSIVE

LONGFEATHERED – (TERMS ALSO USED: LONGFEATHERS, LONG, LONG FEATHERING) – NOTE: THIS IS NOT A MUTATION! THIS IS A PRODUCT OF SELECTIVE BREEDING. THE ENGLISH BUDGERIGAR AND THE ENGLISH AND GERMAN ZEBRA FINCHES ARE LIKE THE ROSEICOLLIS (PEACHFACED) LONGFEATHERED. IT WAS NAMED LONGFEATHERED BY THE PERSON WHO DEVELOPED THE STRAIN, IT DOES NOT HAVE LONG FEATHERS AS MANY PEOPLE EXPECT THE BIRDS TO HAVE HANGING LONG FEATHERS.

HYBRIDS:

There are a lot of wrong information out there and mainly its from people who do not bother to read and learn before the speak or post the wrong information.

The meaning of hybrid: The offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock, especially the offspring produced by breeding animals or plants of different varieties, species or races.

A hybrid Lovebird is a genetic term that describes the result of two species of lovebirds being crossbred.

The meaning of transmutation: Transmutation is a term used when a mutation is transferred from one  species to another. Example: The Nyasa is the only Eyering which has a Lutino mutation naturally. This was crossed to the other Eyering species to produce Ino in the other species as well. Another example: The Blue Personatus (Blue Masked), this mutation occurred naturally in the Personatus (Masked) species only but it was crossed to other Eyering species in order to obtain Blue in Nigrigenis, Nyasa and Fischeris.

The Eyering species (Personatus, Fischeris, Nigrigenis and Lilianae) hybridize easily. Both males and females hybrids can reproduce. However, when eyerings are crossed with Roseicollis (Peachfaced) some people believe that these offsprings may be mules (infertile) and very few may be fertile. There has been a well documented research study at Cornell University by Prof. William Dilger that the offsprings of such mating (Peachfaced and Eyering) can affect the social and nest building behaviors. This documented study explains the confusion some of these hybrids had while building a nest since the Peachfaced and the Eyerings have different nest building habits. In Volume 4 – issue 2 of the Agapornis News magazine from ABE there is an article regarding this study.

SEX LINKED INHERITANCE (courtesy Marilena Salmones)

Change the Ino to any other sex linked color mutation and the results will be the same:
Also, if the birds are split to any other recessive color mutation you must add that into the equation, as well as any other sex linked mutation, etc.
It can get a bit complicated when you have birds carrying multiple color mutations.
These equations are for Green and Ino:

1)Green male X Ino female =
50% Green/Ino males
50% Green females

2)Ino male X Green female =
50% Green/Ino
50% Ino female

3)Green/Ino male X Green female =
Green males 25%
Ino females 25%
Green/Ino males 25%
Green females 25%

4)Green/Ino male X Ino female =
25% Green/Ino males
25% Ino males
25% Ino females
25% Green females

5)Ino X Ino =
100% Inos males and females
