In Agapornis Personatus we have 3 different sorts of blue birds. First, we have the blue or a bird without any dark factor. Secondly, we have the cobalt or a bird with one dark factor and last, a mauve or a bird with two dark factors. The dark factor is dominant against the wild form. A bird can never be split for a dark factor.
If you want to breed mauve birds then you need two birds with a dark factor. Blue is recessive, this means that the male and the female can be split to blue.
To breed good mauves I prefer to start with two dark green/blue (one dark factor in each bird) or with two cobalt birds because it is easier to find those birds in a good format and feather structure.
Don’t breed mauve by using two double dark factor birds because the feathers will be shorter and you will produce which will be smaller.
A few combinations :
What we need are birds with a black head and a white band in the neck. A fault is that the white is suffused with the black in the neck.
I wish you all a lot of show quality mauves.
